ISTELive 22 sessions focus on expanding equity and empowering educators as they bring digital innovation to the classroom

It’s that time of year again–ISTELive 22 is just around the corner, and this year, the nation’s largest edtech show takes place in New Orleans.

Focusing on empowering educators and elevating equity, ISTELive features in-person content live and streamed from the conference, along with online content from remote presenters.

Sessions include focuses on blended learning, curating classroom resources, using augmented reality, project-based learning, building student media literacy, time-saving tech tricks from librarians, using digital tools with students who have special needs, digital problem-solving, and more.

Monday’s mainstage speaker will be announced soon. On Tuesday, attendees can hear from ISTE’s Madelyn Mock discuss the growing need for collaboration in education and how educators can look at education from a variety of lenses and all-encompassing perspectives that can deliver new learning to students.

Here are some of the ISTELive 22 sessions that we want to check out in New Orleans–and stay tuned for exclusive eSchool News coverage from the conference:

Improve failures, completion and grades with gamification:
In this experimental study, we demonstrate that a gamified course overlay can improve failures, completion and grades — even for lower-performing teachers. The tools developed for this study draw on principles of behavioral economics, motivation theory and learning cognition theory to help students want to improve and connect with teachers.

Engage young learners with project-based learning: Project-based learning is possible for young learners. Presenters will illustrate ways to implement it using fun and engaging technology tools. Educators will gain the tools and knowledge necessary to create learning opportunities that challenge young learners to use a design process and computational thinking to innovate and solve problems.

Using podcasting to amplify teacher voice in the rural midwest: Discover how the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville leveraged technology to amplify teacher voice in the Driftless region of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa with the creation of the Proud Rural Teacher Podcast. Learn how presenters leveraged technology to create, produce, and distribute their education-focused podcast.

An extrasensory art experience: Learning about art and science through technology: Art, science, technology … a single unifying vision for understanding synesthesia. Hear how a 12th grade student used artificial intelligence and machine learning to design a system that acts as a translator between images and music. She also found a creative way to develop an immersive and extrasensory experience that emulates what people with synesthesia perceive.

Innovative special education planning through technology integration: New challenges require innovative solutions. That’s how the staff at ISD 916 in St. Paul, Minnesota, approaches education. This presentation will feature innovations and how they support students. Included will be searchable databases, ways to support non-reading students using Google Tools and modifying trends to meet the needs of special education students.
