Every bit helps. February’s school grants offer some aid for teachers
School funding is a challenge even in the post prosperous of times, especially when it comes to ed tech–technology is always changing, and maintaining or upgrading initiatives, tools, or resources is not always free. Many educators and administrators rely on school grants to fund important projects and opportunities for students.
Each month, eSchool News compiles a list of new education grant opportunities. This month’s grants focus on mostly smaller sums ideal for individual classroom teachers or projects.

The Stepping-Stone Grant
Open to K-5 educators in Title I schools, funded projects should utilize Arts Infused Inquiry Based Learning to teach focusing on these key competencies: creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.
Funding amount: $450

Pets in the Classroom
Designed for preK-8 classrooms, these grants are intended to support pets or aquariums in the classroom for the purposes of teaching children to bond with and care for their pets responsibly. The welfare of the small animals involved is of paramount importance. These grants must not be used for the purposes of research or experiments of any kind.

“From Failure to Promise” grants
K-12 educators can apply for $500 mini grants in 2015 with creative ideas for adopting and using “From Failure to Promise” in their curriculum. The grants, designed move students to reach their full potential in literacy or STEM subjects, are a tie-in to a recent book by Dr. C Moorer who wrote about flunking out of college to becoming an engineer, consultant, and ultimately a university professor.

Association of American Educators Foundation grant
Classroom grants are available to all full-time educators who have not received a scholarship or grant from AAE in the previous three grant cycles (or 18 months). Awards are competitive. AAE members receive additional weight in the scoring rubric. Classroom grants can be used for a variety of projects and materials, including but not limited to books, software, calculators, math manipulatives, art supplies, audio-visual equipment, and lab materials. Funds must be used within one year of the application deadline.

School In-Service Training Grants for Grades Pre-K-5 Teachers
The purpose of this grant is to provide financial assistance to elementary schools for in-service education in mathematics. Costs may include honoraria and expenses for consultants, materials, substitute time, and conference or workshop registrations. No funds may be used for staff travel or equipment. While this grant does not fund the purchase of technology, proposals including professional development involving the use of technology to enhance student learning are encouraged.

ACS-Hach High School Chemistry Classroom Grant
Since 2008, more than 600 high school chemistry teachers have received ACS-Hach High School Chemistry Classroom Grants to support ideas that enhance classroom learning, foster student development, and reveal the wonders of chemistry.
Funding amount: up to $1,500
